TATTOO AFTERCARE

Once your tattoo is completed it will be wrapped in clingfilm, which you will wear home and should be left on for 2-3hrs.

I recommend not planning anything for the remainder of the day/evening after your tattoo, rest is best.

Always wash your hands before touching/cleaning your tattoo.

After carefully removing the dressing, wash gently with mild fragrance free soap. Rinse off well, pat dry with paper towels and allow to air-dry for a further few minutes. Apply aftercare cream/balm sparingly, allowing it to be absorbed into the skin. you do not want the tattoo to be slick, just lightly moisturised.

Continue to wash and moisturise tattoo 2-3 times a day for the following 3-4 weeks, taking care to be as gentle as possible with it.

Your tattoo may flake/scab during the healing process - taking care to wash off all blood and lymph from your tattoo over the first couple of days will help to reduce this, and topping up a few times a day with aftercare balm or fragrance-free moisturiser (eg E45) will help too.

Try to minimise exercise/strenuous activity over the week or so after getting your tattoo, as well as anything that might knock/scrape/damage it for the duration of healing (3-4 weeks). Any exercise should be followed by washing straight after to avoid any lingering sweat from aggravating your tattoo.

Avoid submerging the tattoo in water, and keep showers short and not too hot.

Avoid exposing your tattoo to strong direct sunlight.

Do not pick or scratch your tattoo during healing; this is the most surefire way to damage and/or infect your tattoo.

Wearing loose cotton clothing over the tattooed area during healing will help ensure the best possible heal to your new tattoo!

If your tattoo should require any touch ups after healing, these are free of charge providing you have followed the aftercare instructions and let me know within two months of your appointment. However, if it’s determined that the tattoos healing issues were due to your own neglect, you will be charged at the full hourly rate.
